How do fish swim?
Probably, each person, looking at the aquarium, has some strange feelings. This calm and relaxation. Hasn't anyone been fishing? You must remember these feelings, this excitement, sports interest. Also, many people have always been interested in knowing how fish swim, how do they do it? Therefore, in order to understand how fish swim, it is necessary to understand their anatomy in more detail.
Inside the fish there is a swim bladder, which is a film organ. This organ connects to the intestines of the fish. To move in the water, the fish regulates the volume of gas in its swim bladder.
The density of the body of the fish is equal to the density of water, so the fish are additionally kept in a vertical floating position due to this feature of their body. Also, each representative of the given range of wildlife in water depths also regulates its movement at the expense of fins.
Staying upright in fish helps the dorsal and anal fin, while the pectoral fins move the fish forward.The tail also explains why the fish swim. It functions as:

- The main "engine" of fish.
Muscles that are located along the body of the fish, also help her move in the water. When a fish wriggles with its whole body, it strains and relaxes the muscles from one side and then from the other. So the swimming movement takes place, which resembles the movement of a snake.
Thus, the fish has a whole system and mechanism of organs so that it can swim. There are still some features of the body structure of fish that help it move faster and easier:
- The body of each fish smooth and smooth outlines, which reduces the resistance of water during movement.
- The skin of the fish is covered with special mucus, which adds slip and smoothness in movement.
Fast swimming fish have the same properties as ordinary fish, but their muscles are stronger, and the fins are larger and more mobile. Therefore, the fish can develop speed, which helps to hunt smaller fish and quickly get away from predators.
Constantly on the move
Sharks and sailboats do not have swim bladders, so they have to be held in the water only by the pectoral fins.They perform the same functions as the wings of the aircraft. In order not to drown, the fish has to constantly be in a state of movement.
Bottom species of fish very rarely float into the water column, because there they are immediately visible and attractive to predators. These fish have a flattened back, because they do not need to constantly swim. These species are represented by gobies, flounder, rays and stargazers. Completely flat fish, for example, rays, is that kind of aquatic inhabitants who turned their fins into the sides of their bodies. Therefore, they manage to swim thanks to the waves that run through their flat outlines of the body.
But the fish, which are in constant motion, among the water expanses, have a flattened body and head. Such fish make a movement forward, bending their body like a spring. All their efforts are movement, contraction of all lateral muscles of the body, which is concentrated on each stroke of the tail. So the fish swim near the surface of the water, looking for small plankton, or float away from predators, or they can just calmly cut the water mass.
If a fish swims belly up, there may be several factors:
- binge eating;
- a disease of various kinds;
There are also special types of swimming, among representatives of fish: sea needles and skates turned their tail fins into a regular tail. Therefore, they move at the expense of their dorsal fins.
