Only Three Women In History Have Ever Been TIME’s Person Of The Year
That's just three women since 1927.
TIME magazine has named its ‘Person of the Year’, but did you know that the honour has only been given to a woman three times? The award has been going since 1927. That’s nearlyninety yearsworth of amazing women that have been overlooked.
And, did you know, that the award was called the ‘Man of the Year’ up until 1999?1999. Since it’s been re-named the gender neutral ‘Person of the Year’ not a single woman has won it.
The last woman to be named ‘Person of the Year’ was politician Corazon Aquino in 1986 after she bravely overthrew the corrupt government of Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos.
The other two female recipients were Wallis Simpson in 1936 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1952.
This year, very deservedly, TIME’s ‘Person of the Year’ went to ‘The Ebola Fighters’, which obviously includes many brave and selfless women. But let’s see even more women in future please.
