Street Chic: November 2009
Over the past few years, street style blogs have become increasingly popular, so much so that some of the fabulous photographers behind them have managed to make a living out of it. On top of that, a lucky few have been able to travel the world, photographing every day people in cities everywhere.
This month, the Facehunter has been traipsing across the southern hemisphere, including a stop in my home country of Australia, reminding us of the beautiful weather down there. Although it is hard to imagine wearing a floral dress with bare legs right now, we were reminded of the fact that down under, another season is taking place. Consequently, this month’s edition of Street Chic heralds the start of a more versatile monthly selection – fashion for any and every season, from regular fashionistas around the world.
With that, we present to you November’s Street Chic, with no shortage of gorgeous girls to take your fashion inspiration from, wherever you are.
CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT:
#1.First stop, Chicago, known for its cold winters. This girl has thrown together a look that combines vintage inspiration with current trends, with her Victorian blouse contrasting perfectly with the faux fur vest. You can recreate this look by picking up Natasha’s (8.50, reduced from 5) and adding BB Dakota’s (). Adding a pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s Chloe-inspired Northern Lights Boots (8) in brown will add a rough element to your look while a pair of Topshop’s () will complete the look.
#2.If the last few months are any indication, the boyfriend trend is picking up steam and by the end of the year, we’re all going to be stealing from our boyfriend’s closet. This girl is way ahead of the game with a look that is perfect for spring or fall. Make this look your own by pairing BDG’s Zip Back Ponte Mini Skirt () with a pair of (.45) by Harajuku Lovers. If you can’t steal the perfect shirt from your boyfriend, try this (.80) in olive. For the finishing touch, add a () from American Apparel.
#3.We couldn’t help but take notice when we spotted this gorgeous Aussie on Facehunter posing in the Melbourne sunshine. We love her grungy denim shirt and floral dress mix, especially when toughened up with a pair of lace-up boots. The overall effect is part Chloe Sevigny, part 90s grunge. Steal her style by pairing this Floral Circle Dress () by byCORPUS in grey floral with Topshop’s (). Add a pair of these (.95) and throw Steve Madden’s (.95) over your shoulder.
#4.As with our last edition of Street Chic, we love a girl after our own heart and a classic all-black outfit is the easy way in. Pinch this look by wearing Charlotte Ronson’s (3) with a pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s (0). Throw this () over a slouchy black sweater and then add a pair of D&G’s (0) in black for the finishing touch.
#5.As the northern hemisphere moves into winter, nothing looks cozier than a chunky cowl knit scarf, especially when paired with a babydoll dress, as this girl has done. Ready to try this look out? This () from Victoria’s Secret is ideal paired with this (.95) from New York & Company. The look isn’t complete without a pair of AE’s (.50), Steve Madden’s () and Lucky Brand’s (8).
#6.For two years now, body chains have been making their rounds on the streets and this girl shows us how to work the look, pairing it with a simple black outfit to make the chain the focus of the look. Try a similar style by layering a black tee with Forever21’s (.80) and Topshop’s (5). Then, add Victorian Hippie’s (3) and you’re good to go.

All in all, the prices and drinks are comparable to other high-end cocktail bars that put research into their menus and effort into their environment, but the biggest surprise was how relaxed Dandelyan was. Not only was I able to get a table without a booking, but people seemed comfortable in whatever they were wearing and unafraid of asking questions about the menu or being honest about not knowing what to order. Considering its been named the best bar in the world, Dandelyan is completely unpretentious — which is perhaps what makes it so popular
