Whole World in Her Hands
It has been an astonishing weekend, which began with an astonishing happenstance, which brought BBC America and fans from over 50 countries to my mother's door.
Or, I guess you'd say, her laptop.
Years ago, Mom joined in on online friendship with the elegant correspondent, Daniel Sieberg. In fact, they were Facebook friends. When he was looking for people to talk to for a BBC America documentary series about living online, he immediately thought of her.
And this is the result. I think you'll see why I'm bursting with pride.
Here is a woman, at the end of her life, who is connecting with the world. When talking on the phone is disablingly difficult, when walking is like climbing a mountain, when leaving the house is only a memory, Mom still has her voice. It is bigger and stronger than ever, reaching over oceans, coastlines, borders between nations and boundaries between people.
As Mom says, When wonderful things happen to you, you should stop and acknowledge them to yourself, and share them with anyone who will read them.
That is what I am doing and I am sharing them with you.
